Nhan Dan Online – A total of 25,729 enterprises were established in the first four months of the year with total registered capital of VND143.41 trillion (US$6.74 billion), an increase of 8.1% in number and 16.2% in capital over the same period in 2013.
Statistics from the Agency for Business Registration under the Ministry of Planning and Investment showed that 7,373 new enterprises were set up in April alone, with a total registered capital of VND45.43 trillion (US$2.13 billion). These figures represent a 1.5% decrease in number over March, but a 29.5% rise in value.
Over the four-month period, 21,489 enterprises were dissolved or halted operations, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%. As many as 5,863 suspended enterprises resumed operations, mostly in the areas of wholesale, retail and automobile and motorcycle repair.
Many of the suspended enterprises that returned to operations were concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City (2,044 enterprises) and Hanoi (1,366 enterprises). These cities also saw the largest number of enterprises being dissolved or halting operations, with 7,617 companies in Ho Chi Minh City and 4,582 companies in Hanoi.
The finance, banking and insurance sectors recorded the highest number of newly established enterprises during the period, and experienced an increase of 276.4% over the same period of last year.
Other sectors posted a decrease in the establishment of new enterprises including information and communications, tourism, machine and equipment leasing and other supporting services.
