Industrial production up 5.9% in May

The Industrial Production Index rose by 5.9 percent year-on-year in May and 5.6 percent in the year-to-date, the General Statistics Office of Vietnam reported.

Manufacturing-processing was up by 7.5 percent and electricity generation and distribution by 10.6 percent.

In early May the inventory index for the manufacturing and processing industries was up by 12.6 percent year-on-year.

The inventories of electronic items, computers, and optical products skyrocketed by 131 percent and of tobacco by 157.7 percent.

But it was down by 1.4 percent in the textile industry, 21.5 percent in the auto industry, and 8.2 percent in the non-metallic mining industry.
