Nhan Dan Online – More than 800 historical documents on the Dien Bien Phu victory are on display at an exhibition which opened this morning at the Vietnam National Library in Hanoi.

The artefacts include books, articles, excerpts and photos about the Dien Bien Phu campaign as well as President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap, who made significant contributions to the victory. They were collected by domestic and foreign researchers and historical witnesses who lived through the resistance war against the French.

The items are divided into five themes: the historical background of the Dien Bien Phu campaign; developments in the Dien Bien Phu campaign; President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap and the Dien Bien Phu campaign through foreign documents; Dien Bien Phu – Symbol of Vietnam’s strength; and documentary films on the Dien Bien Phu victory.

The highlight of the exhibition is a display of books featuring the memoirs of historical figures like General Vo Nguyen Giap, doctor Ton That Tung and Lieutenant General Vuong Thua Vu. Alongside the books are numerous articles written by foreign witnesses on the process of the Vietnamese resistance war against the French colonialists.

The exhibition has been organised to honour the value of the Dien Bien Phu victory, which played an important role not only in the Vietnamese resistance war but also in the national liberation movements of oppressed nations around the world.

The event runs through May 19.
