French guitarist to perform in Vietnam tonight

Young and gifted French guitarist Gabriel Bianco is set to give a recital in Hanoi tonight and in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday.

Bianco will perform at L'Espace (24 Trang Tien, Hoan Kiem District) at 8:00 pm tonight. The 26-year-old artist is also expected to mesmerize Ho Chi Minh City audiences with a recital at IDECAF (28 Le Thanh Ton, District 1) at 8:00 pm on May 22.

Bianco will perform works by celebrated composers including Francesco Da Milano, Napoléon Coste, Johann Sebastian Bach, and John Duarte.

Tickets, available at IDECAF, cost VND100,000 (US$5), with a 50 percent discount for students.

Gabriel Bianco, who began playing the guitar at the age of five, has established himself as one of the most active guitarists of his generation.

He constantly updates both original works and transcriptions, covering all periods of classical music in his stunning repertoire.

An eight-time First Prize winner at the most prestigious international competitions (notably at Vienna 2006, San Francisco 2008, and Madrid 2011), Bianco has given recitals all over the world.

He has also performed at 40 international guitar festivals in many countries including France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Russia, Thailand, India, and Peru.

His first CD, released in 2009 by the Naxos label, received high critical acclaim in many different countries.
