Nhan Dan Online – A delegation of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Inspection Commission on April 17 granted VND1.1 billion (US$51,700) to needy residents on Ly Son island district, Quang Ngai province to help them build houses.

The financial support has been donated by enterprises and benefactors in Ho Chi Minh City and will be used for building houses for poor islanders. The construction of each house is expected to cost VND50 million (US$2,300).

On the occasion, the Inspection Commission also presented VND50 million in scholarships to 50 poor pupils on the island who have recorded good academic results.

Ly Son island district is about 30 kilometres from the mainland and is home to more than 21,000 people who live in three communes. Due to the island’s geographical features and its isolation in the rainy season, the lives of Ly Son islanders are more difficult than others on the mainland.
