A woman from the north central province of Nghe An told police on Saturday that she killed her husband after he began beating her for refusing his sexual advances.

Nguyen Thi Lien, 54, confessed to the crime after locals discovered head injures on her husband, Bui Van Dua, while preparing his body for burial. They later informed police, who arrested Lien.

The old woman had told neighbors her husband died from a stroke he suffered in his sleep.

According to a report by radio network Voice of Vietnam, Lien told police her husband began propositioning her for sex at around 3 a.m. on April 9 and she refused him.

She said he flew into a rage and hit her with an iron bar, but she managed to seize the bar from him and strike back. In the scuffle, she picked up a nearby hoe and hit him twice on the head and neck.

After he fell to the ground, she went back to bed and woke to find him dead.

Police said Lien and her husband have four children who are all married and live far away. The couple had spent the last decade living alone.

Nguyen Dinh Cuong, a police officer, said the couple had many conflicts before but none had required police intervention.

The investigation remains underway.
