One great idea

Vietnam-Phu Yen seafood festival 2014 has just been concluded with great impression carved on tourists’ minds as well as the joy among the provincial people; with those working in tourism sector, hope is that after the event, Phu Yen will form one more unique festival: oceanic tuna festival! As related to this issue, Phu Yen Newspaper interviewed Mr. Tran Quang Nhat, PCC Vice chairman cum head of the festival’s organizing board.

* Can you give a general assessment on the success of the Festival?

-Vietnam-Phu Yen seafood festival 2014 has been comprehensively successful, creating the great unity in the entire political system of the province; lots of activities receive the great enthusiasm of the peoples of all classes, delegates, enterprises and tourists.

With 18 events of investment promotion, trade cooperation for development, aqua-culture sector, culture-arts, tourism advertisement, the Festival is an opportunity for trade exchanging on exploiting, preserving, processing seafood oceanic tuna among fishermen in coastal villages and the enterprises purchasing seafood, also, this is a precious chance for linking to invest. Simultaneously, through forums and conferences at the Festival, the provinces in the central south coastal region shared the same voice towards the proposal to the Central Government to consider, issue and supplement some policies to support fishermen to develop the profession of breeding, exploiting aqua-products in the direction of enhancing the products’ values in an efficient and sustainable way.

Besides, through the events at the Festival, Phu Yen introduced the particular features of sea culture, fishermen’s cultures, one long-term cultural feature in close connection with not only Phu Yen people but also the whole Vietnamese generations. This is also an opportunity to promote, introduce the province’s tourism potentials, particularly tuna cuisine…Festival this time also conveys one very significant message, one combination of the events makes the coastal economy potential outstanding, through which to provoke the national pride of the geographical location of one coastal nation, encouraging fishermen to feel safe in mind to strive far to the sea, to cling and preserve the sea, the fishing grounds for the fishermen themselves and the society, simultaneously contributing to protecting the sea sovereignty, the Nation’s holy sea and islands. The Festival has provoked the love for the sea and islands in each person of the locality in particular and the entire country in general.

*One of the targets of the Festival 2014 is to advertise and introduce the tourism potentials. How is the result from this sector that is brought about by the Festival?

- Among the 18 events at Vietnam-Phu Yen seafood festival 2014, the organizing board spared one particular program for going sightseeing to the sea and islands to serve the delegates, with the destinations of Xuan Dai Bay; An Tho citadel; Da Trang Pagoda, Mang Lang Church, Da Dia Reef, Mon Beach-Dien Cape house, No-number vessel, Nhan Tower…Lots of tourists were excited at this program.

During the 7 days of the Festival, travel agencies in and outside the province organized tours to Phu Yen with the estimated number of over 10,000 people; about more than 2,000 tourists visited the province’s relics, natural scenic spots. Hopefully, the impact from the task of advertising, introducing, in the coming time, more and more tourists will know more about Phu Yen and this will lead to an increase in tourists coming to the province.

* Lots of people expect Vietnam-Phu Yen seafood festival 2014 is the impetus for Phu Yen to organize a unique festival on a periodical basis, so as to advertise and attract tourists. Some even suggest the province organize Phu Yen oceanic tuna festival. How’s your idea?

- I do think this is one great idea, in need of nurturing and creating the great unit in the entire society, from which to make a more drastic determination. With many tourism provinces and cities in the country, the choice is to establish one own’s unique festival to attract tourists, like: Da Lat Flower Festival (Lam Dong province), traditional martial arts Festival (Binh Dinh province), Hue Festival (Thua Thien Hue province), Sea Festival (Khanh Hoa province)…Phu Yen with “Oceanic tuna festival”? why not? Nevertheless, it does take time. With my responsibilities, I am going to present to higher authorities for consideration and orientation for this issue.
