Xa Tac Devotion Ritual is held twice a year, once during spring and once in autumn. It is a ceremony second only to the Nam Giao Devotion Ritual in terms of its significance. Almost every king of the Nguyen Dynasty held this important event. The preparation for the ritual was often started one day ahead with the offering of fruits, a goat, a cow and a pig. Xa Tac Devotion Ritual has been restored since 2008, and is currently in the process of socialization to be acknowledged as a community festival. In Hue Festival 2008, Xa Tac Devotion Ritual was firstly re- enacted. Since then, Thua Thien Hue has held the Ritual on February of the Lunar New Year.

The history of Vietnam nation’s establishment and development connects with the agriculture. With about 70% of people living in the rural area, agriculture is a foundation for their lives and a stream of the national culture. Xa Tac Devotion Ritual has long been known as one of the most distinctively traditional royal ceremonies, that carries specific features of the wet rice cultivation culture of Vietnam. The re- enactment of Xa Tac Devotion Ritual is not only the restoration and preservation of a traditional royal ritual but also the honor of national agriculture and Vietnam traditional culture.
