(VOV) – Vietnamese shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh continues his climb up the global rankings, setting a new world’s record in the 10m air pistol finals held at Fort Benning, the US on March 30.


The 39 year-old Vietnamese athlete, ranked 8th in the world, secured the gold medal at the 2014 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup championship with a record score of 202.8 points, edging out the previous 202.3-point record.


Hoang narrowly beat two Russian finalists, 28 year-old Sergey Chervyakovskiy and Vladimir 36 year-old Gontcharov, who finished in second and third place with 202.3 and 181.3 points, respectively.


China’s Pang Wei, coming off a victory 20 days ago at the Asian Championship in Kuwait, ended up in fifth place with 138.6 points, behind the Japanese first-time finalist Horimizu Kojiro (fourth with 158.8 points).


Horimizu’s teammate Matsuda Tomoyuki, the 2010 World Champion, ended up in sixth place with 117.8 points.
