(VOV) – A new outbreak of H5N1 flu was detected on a flock of 8,000 chickens in Chau Thanh district, Tay Ninh province, announced the Veterinary Agency Zone 6 on February 28.
On February 27, the provincial veterinary department noted an unusually high number of deaths in the flock and immediately took precautionary measures including blood samples, culling and sanitation to prevent the spread of the disease.
According to head of the provincial veterinarian department, Nguyen Van May, they additionally took steps to inspect all farms in the area including 86 farms operated by Vietnam Joint Stock Company, Emivest, CJVina in the province.
He said that all of the Vietnam Joint Stock Company farms remain healthy as a result of strictly complying with all veterinary guidelines and regulations in terms of breeding, and vaccination.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) sent an urgent message to the provincial and municipal People’s Committees urging a heightened stage of prevention activities regarding the bird flu.
The message stated that to cope with the complicated development of A/H5N1 flu, drastic and immediate measures should be taken at provinces and cities nationwide, especially high-risk localities.
It stressed the importance of strictly monitoring duck addition to chicken flocks, and the transport of poultry at markets at localities, using veterinary medicines in prevention and actively declaring outbreaks if they occur.
Additionally, measures to cull the poultry and disinfecting infected areas urgently, using financial support properly and strengthening dissemination on the disease.
It is also important to send health workers to infected localities to timely take samples for testing and support the vaccination at localities.
Bird flu has been recurred in 24 provinces and cities nationwide with the number of infected and culled poultry reaching 113,000 .
