Nhan Dan Online – Nearly 2,000 journalists and 100 press agencies in Vietnam have been provided with training courses during the three-year implementation of the Swedish-sponsored ‘Supporting Vietnam Media Training Centre’ project.
Hoang Huu Luong, head of the Press Department under the Ministry of Information and Communications, led a discussion about the project at a conference held in Hanoi on March 17 to review its outcomes from 2010 to 2013.
The project is the only collaborative programme implemented in the media sector by the Swedish and Vietnamese Governments under the Cooperation and Development Framework Agreement that was concluded between the two countries in the 2010-2011 period.
As a result, the Vietnam Media Training Centre has come to be thought of by many press agencies as a contact office where their press activities and in-house training courses can be conducted.
The courses focus on enhancing the participants’ capacity for reporting on urgent social issues, editing news and utilising social networks at press agencies.
The courses have also created opportunities for managers of Vietnamese press agencies to discover new methods of management that encourage integrated and self-reliant media.
International media experts attending the conference also provided updates on press development trends around the world and details on effective models for press agencies in developing countries, which could be useful for improving journalism in Vietnam.
