In their debut in Vietnam, the father-and-son duo will bring to the stage masterpieces by Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Modest Mussorgsky and Igor Stravinsky.
Vladimir Ashkenazy has been acknowledged for his polished style developed over the last 50 years he has dedicated to world classical music. He is one of few artists who have succeeded as both pianist and conductor.
His name became popular on the world stage after he claimed the championship of the 1956 Elizabeth Music Competition in Brussels.
Vovka Ashkenazy took his first piano lesson when he was six years old. After completing his musical studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, he premiered at the Barbican centre in London in 1983 with the London Symphony Orchestra.
He has toured across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and America, where he performed with famous orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Australian Chamber, and the Berlin Symphony Orchestras.
The duo’s performance in Hanoi will be broadcast live on the big screen at the August Revolution Square so that musical connoisseurs in the city can enjoy the show.
The Hennessy Concert Series is organised jointly by the Hennessy liquor company and the Vietnam Performing Arts Centre under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It has been held in Vietnam since 1996 to promote classical music and music education.
Last year’s concert featured the talent of German piano virtuoso Mona Asuka Ott.
