Photos of Vietnam on exhibit in Paris

(VOV) – The Paris-based Centre and Research National Archives is displaying photos of Vietnamese people and land taken by French photographers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The photos by Emile Gsell, Gustave Ernest, Trumelet-Faber, Charles-Edouard Hocquard and Aurelien Pestel feature the daily life of Vietnamese people, including traditional costumes, religious festivals and cultural and historical relics.

Pierre Geny, Secretary of l’Academie des Sciences d’Outre-Mer (Academy of Overseas Sciences), said the exhibition is an important event within the framework of the Vietnam Year in France 2014.

These photos are historical witnesses, helping visitors formulate and reshape their image of Vietnam, he said.

At the opening ceremony on March 20, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Duong Chi Dung affirmed that the exhibition has added diversity to the wide breadth of activities celebrating the Vietnam Year in France.

The exhibition entitled France-Vietnam-Four Centuries of Relations follows similar ones held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City earlier this year and is aimed at helping those who love Vietnam gain a better insight into its land and people.

The event will run until May 20, 2014.

On the occasion, the Academy of Overseas Sciences exhibited 40 large-sized photos collected from art museums in Hanoi and HCM City.
