A roundtable discussion was held in the Russian capital Moscow on March 21 to discuss the relationship between Vietnam and Japan and the importance of ensuring security in East Asia.

Organised by the Institute of Far Eastern Studies under the Russian Academy of Sciences, the event attracted the participation of many researchers, scientists and students studying in Russia.
Sergey Luzyanin, deputy director of the institute, reviewed major milestones in the Vietnam-Japan relations, saying the two countries are establishing an important economic dialogue mechanism in the region to bring mutual benefits to both.
The recent upgrade in their relations to a strategic partnership has ensured a balance in their forces and contributed to maintaining peace and security in East Asia, he stressed.
Other speeches at the event gave in-depth analysis of historical factors in the relations between Vietnam and Japan, areas of cooperation, their diplomatic policies and the impact of their relations on the region and the world.
Russian researchers highly valued the efficiency of economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two nations in recent times and stressed that both countries have huge potential for further expanding their partnership in the near future.
The bilateral relations will continue extensively developing in the coming time, thus further consolidating peace and stability in the region, they said./.
