Nhan Dan Online – Over 20 percent of the land clearance necessary for the expansion of the Thanh Hoa – Can Tho section of National Highway 1 and the Ho Chi Minh Highway in Central Highland has not been completed.
The incomplete land clearance work, which is scheduled to be completed by March 31, was discussed this morning in a video conference chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and attended by officials from affected provinces and cities.
It was the third conference held to review the progress of the land clearance for the expansion of these national arterial routes, which run through half of the nation’s provinces and cities and link Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho.
To date, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Ha Tinh and Ninh Thuan provinces have completed land clearance for the project. Nearly all other provinces have yet to clear over 20 percent of the designated land. These include Ninh Binh, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen and Dong Nai provinces.
Completing land clearance by March 31 is an uphill battle, and significant work lies ahead, requiring further attention and direction from local authorities to ensure the progress of the expansion projects, said Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang.
Officials from several provinces explained the reasons for the slow progress of land clearance including the lack of funds for residential resettlement and the delayed removal of power and telecommunications facilities, among others.
Deputy PM Phuc offered harsh criticism to the leaders of Phu Yen and Quang Ngai provinces, both of which have yet to properly settle land clearance issues including residential resettlement and compensation for locals affected by the projects.
He asked the authorities of affected localities at all levels to prioritise and work together on the project.
