VietNamNet Bridge – The new coach of the national chess team, Mr. Dmitriy Kayumov arrived in Vietnam on February 18.

The Uzbekistan coach, born in 1949, is an International Grandmaster. He was the coach of the Uzbekistan national chess team for 15 years.


During his time, the men’s team of Uzbekistan won the Asian championship in 1996, 1999, and the third place at the 32nd Chess Olympiad in 1996.


In 2000, he left Uzbekistan to lead the national chess team of Qatar until 2007. Since 2008, he trained some athletes in his home country. In 2012, his student – Abdusattorov Nodirbek won the U8 world championship.


Kayumov will train the Vietnamese chess team at the National Sports Training Center in HCM City in 2014. His contract may be extended until the Asian Games in 2019. His salary is about $2,000/month.
