The selected design, which features the statue measuring 4.5m in height with a 1.8m-high platform, satisfies stringent artistic and technical standards. It also reflects the momentous significance of the statue in the southern hub, where President Ho set off for ways to liberate the country in 1911, while depicting President Ho’s portrait, his plain, modest lifestyle as well as his affectionate bonds with average people.

The Party’s city committee will also provide guidance so that the author will keep improving his design.

The new statue, which is to be placed in front of the HCMC People’s Committee in district 1, will be erected some 9m away from the current one, towards the Saigon River.

The statue and its surrounding 1-hectare area are of the greatest importance in the city’s downtown area and is supposed to create an open, congruous space with the city’s People’s Committee mansion, the city’s Opera Theater and Nguyen Hue Street’s section for passers-by. The city People’s Committee mansion has been listed as a treasured architectural item to be preserved.
