HCM CITY (VNS)— HCM City has approved a household relocation project that aims to prevent natural disasters in the city.
Under the project, the city administration plans to resettle 1,294 households in 62 locations that are at risk of landslides to existing residential areas or resettlement areas by 2016.
Among these locations, there are 18 “dangerous” spots and 29 others identified as “extremely dangerous” in District 2 and the districts of Binh Thanh, Thu Duc, Nha Be, Can Gio, and Binh Chanh.
The city aims to resettle 647 households in extremely dangerous areas this year; 388 households next year; and the rest in 2016.
Embankments would be built in landslide areas after relocation, according to the city’s People’s Committee.
Residential land acquired for each resettlement household would be from 50-150 sq.m, according to city authorities.
Resettlement support for each household would be VND20 million ($949), and disaster recovery support would be VND20 million per household.
In addition, a compensation policy will be implemented in accordance with current laws.
