Nhan Dan – Two Vietnamese guitarists, Nguyen Thanh Vinh and Nguyen Van Phuc, attended Sri Lanka’s Guitar Fest 2014 from January 25-27 at the invitation of the host country’s Guitar Association.
Since this was the first time Vietnamese artists have participated in the event, they brought new features to the festival.
Meritorious Artist Nguyen Van Phuc won the audiences’ hearts with three pieces: ‘Nguoi Ha Noi’ (Hanoians) by Nguyen Dinh Thi and sections from ‘Sonata’ by Leo Brouwer and ‘Fuocco’ by Roland Dyens.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Phuc brought cheer to listeners with three other pieces including ‘Duong Chung Ta Di’ (On the way we go) by composer Huy Du and the Italian classic, ‘O Sole Mio’.
Their successful performances were yet another small step to connecting the cultures and people of Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
The fourth annual Guitar Fest brought together 40 top Sri Lankan guitarists and several foreign artists.
The repertoire was broadened to feature different styles of guitar playing, including classical, acoustic, pop, rock, jazz and folk guitar.
