(VOV) -Vietnamese acrobats and circus artists performing “Đu quan họ” (Quan Ho swing) won a gold medal at a January 9-12 international circus festival in Italy.
Đu quan họ (known as aerial sword balancing) was choreographed by renowned artist Tong Toan Thang and performed by principal circus professionals Bui Thu Huong and Vu Thanh Tuan.
It incorporates famous Vietnamese folk song Bèo dạt mây trôi – a love duet singing of the northern delta – and traditional costumes. It took the artists one and a half years to practice this act.
Another Vietnamese performance “Đu nhện” (spider web swing) was also widely applauded by the jury and audiences, though it was not awarded a medal.
Its principal artists Bui Hai Quan and Bui Khanh Du won prizes at the Hanoi International Circus Festival in 2012.
The four-day event featured representatives from countries including Spain, France, Cuba, Brazil, Ukraine, and Mongolia.
To celebrate the rapidly approaching Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, the Vietnam Circus Federation has scheduled performances for local audiences at 3PM on the third day of the first lunar month (February 2).
