ASEAN countries are important partners for Vietnam in cuttle-fish and octopus exports, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors.
ASEAN is now the fourth largest cuttle-fish and octopus export market for Vietnam and has continued growth since early 2013, while three other major markets, the Republic of Korea, Japan and the EU, witnessed reductions.
This year, together with Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia and Cambodia, Laos joins the club of major export markets for Vietnam’s cuttle-fish and octopus.
Thailand continues as the largest export market, accounting for more than 79 percent of the total export value of the commodity in ASEAN.
In 2013, Vietnam’s cuttle-fish and octopus exports to Thailand were valued at USD38.5 million, a 12 percent rise over a year earlier. The growth contributed to bringing the total value to ASEAN during the January-November period to USD4.85 million, a year-on-year increase of 8.5 percent./.
