The newly registered projects include a 25 million USD shrimp breeding facility and a 5 million USD project to build infrastructure for <a href="http://bit.ly/1jFCYH5">Tu Ha</a> industrial park. Authorities plan to pour over 22 billion VND (1.03 million USD) to build infrastructure at local industrial parks and support construction firms in ground clearance, mine removal, and building waste treatment plants. <a href="http://bit.ly/1oYOkJR">As of September</a>, local FDI businesses grossed 495 million USD in revenue, contributing 1.3 trillion VND (around 68 million USD) to the State budget, up 7.5 percent over the previous year. Industrial production grows by 6.7 percent

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'>Industrial production grows by 6.7 percent Vietnam’s index of industrial production (IIP) experienced a year-on-year increase of 6.7 percent from <a href="http://bit.ly/1nwY9Ss">January to September</a> 2014, the highest growth rate since the beginning of this year. <a href="http://bit.ly/1jx1OwV">The General Statistics Office</a> (GSO) also reported that during the nine-month period, the processing and manufacturing sector, which accounted for 70 percent of total industrial output, achieved an encouraging 8.3-percent growth. Industrial products recording the highest growth included handsets with 72.3 percent; electronics, computers and optical equipment with 35.9 percent; leather products and footwear with 31.3 percent; and electrical output with 13.1 percent. Products with lower growth rates include crude oil and steel at only 3.2 percent each; chemicals at three percent; and pharmaceuticals at 0.9 percent. Products with declining rates include sugar, which fell by 25.6 percent; and powdered milk, by 23.3 percent. In spite of the nine-month growth, the nation’s IIP remained equal to one-third of the growth seen a few years ago, GSO experts said. They attributed this to low consumption and a high inventory index, which stood at 11.6 percent. The industry and trade sector in 28 northern cities and provinces will strive to achieve an IIP of 2.17 quadrillion VND (more than 102 billion USD) this year. Achievement of this target will lead to a 22.5-percent year-on-year increase. The plan foresees a reduction of the Tra fish farming area by 500ha each year from the current 6,400ha. A new environmentally friendly breeding technique will be implemented, helping increase the average productivity of Tra fish farming in the region to 180-200 tons per ha, compared to 160 tons per ha today. Estimates reckon that in 2016, Tra fish output will total 1.2 million tonnes and the value of exports will reach at least 2 billion USD. The region plans to change the production lines in all its Tra fish processing factories to cut production costs, improve quality and add value. Some 320 breeding facilities in nine provinces will be upgraded to produce high-quality breeding fish for farmers. <a href="http://bit.ly/1un4otz">Vo Hung Dung</a>, <a href="http://bit.ly/1nwY951">VTFA Vice Chairman</a>, said attempts to boost Tra fish sales in international markets requires appropriate commercial protective measures and more promotional efforts in potential new markets, such as Russia, <a href="http://bit.ly/1j7ytZd">China and India</a>. During the first nine months of 2014, the region’s total volume of Tra fish production was 776,000 tonnes, of which 490,000 tonnes were exported, generating 1.27 billion USD. Vietnam’s Hanel DTT plans Myanmar e-gov’t platform

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'>Vietnam’s Hanel DTT plans Myanmar e-gov’t platform Viet Nam’s Hanel DTT Technology Joint Stock Company signed a cooperation agreement with <a href="http://bit.ly/1nwY7dc">Sundrew Myanmar Company</a> to build an open e-government platform (OEP) based on open source technologies in Myanmar. The ceremony for the signing of the agreement was held at a Viet Nam-Myanmar business matching session in Yangon, Myanmar, on Wednesday. The two sides have agreed to share their resources to implement e-government projects in <a href="http://bit.ly/1hdNUsG">Southeast Asia</a>, and work in government-to-government (G2G) systems on the projects. They will also exchange information, experience, technology and experts to build OEP communities in order to expand OEP functions and carry out projects of the two countries. The agreement marks an advance in bringing Vietnamese technology into the world. OEP has been carried out in <a href="http://bit.ly/1pLMg7W">Da Nang City</a>, <a href="http://bit.ly/1nwY5Ck">Ha Noi City</a> and in the fourth level of public healthcare services of the <a href="http://bit.ly/1dPBLi9">Ministry of Health</a>. <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKQUx">The OEP</a> 1.1 version is expected to be released at the end of 2014, with basic functions meeting the demands of authorities for managing citizens and exchanging data with other cities and ministries. The OEP 2.0 version will be launched in 2015 with improved functions to support technologies such as cloud computing, mobility and big data. DTT has been providing solutions for e-government and enterprise integration for enterprises and organisations in Viet Nam. Its parent firm, <a href="http://bit.ly/1nwY7dm">Hanel Limited Company</a>, which was established in 1984, focuses on different fields including electronics, computers and telecom; real estate and financial management; and building infrastructure for hi-tech parks. Earlier, <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKOvM">VNPT International</a>, a member company of the <a href="http://bit.ly/1nwY8xS">Viet Nam Posts and Telecommunications Group</a> (VNPT), inaugurated its first representative office in <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKQUy">Yangon on Tuesday</a>. At the opening ceremony, member companies of VNPT signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Burmese telecom enterprises. <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKQUz">According to the MoUs</a>, VNPT-I will continue to cooperate with its partner, the A1 Construction Company Ltd, to implement telecom and software products and IT solutions. <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKOvT">VINASAT</a> centre, under the management of VNPT’s subsidiary <a href="http://bit.ly/1nwY7tM">Viet Nam Telecom International</a> (VTI), will provide satellite bands for the <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKRaQ">Myanmar Ministry of Defence</a>. <a href="http://bit.ly/1nwY7tR">VNPT and the Elite Telecom Public Company Limited</a> will also survey the market and set up a plan to establish a joint venture to provide Internet services there. In a meeting with <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKOMc">Viet Nam’s Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son on Monday in Nay Pyi Taw</a>, <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKOMd">Myanmar President Thein Sein</a> said that <a href="http://bit.ly/1pIu4zZ">Viet Nam and Myanmar</a> had signed an agreement to cooperate with each other in 12 fields, including telecom and IT. He added that Myanmar would focus on investing in the two above-mentioned sectors in the near future, and affirmed that the country would help Vietnamese enterprises in all fields, especially in telecom and IT, to learn about the Burmese market to enhance co-operation. Myanmar is considered to be an emerging telecom market. At the end of 2012, only 5.4 million of its 60 million people, equivalent to nine per cent, owned mobile phones, compared to 70 per cent in Cambodia, 87 per cent in Laos and 100 per cent in Thailand. The government of Myanmar aims to increase the number of mobile phone users to 75 to 80 per cent by 2016. The trip, co-organized in 2010 by GTaI in collaboration with the <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKQE5">German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam</a>, and the State Development Corporation of Thuringia, was held following a similar trip from 2010-2011. What is your first impression of Vietnam’s economy? Though I haven’t been to many places in the country, just three days in Hanoi and two days in Ho Chi Minh City, my first impression, especially in Ho Chi Minh City, is that the local economy is very lively and energetic, with a lot of things happening, like what our German firms here told us earlier – the local economy is very promising for future business activities. Our delegation has met with around 160 Vietnamese companies in the two cities, and though we have yet to see any deals signed, as it was this is a starting stage of contact and getting to know each other, it will take some time for more deals between <a href="http://bit.ly/1qaLYec">German and Vietnamese</a> firms to be reached, like what we saw in the 2010-2011 trip. The past trip was pretty much the same format, with a delegation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in a variety of industries located in eastern Germany. What happened after the trip was that some German firms visited Vietnam again to continue talks and to start cooperation with Vietnamese firms. What do you think about bilateral trade relations after a free <a href="http://bit.ly/1CzKQUk">trade agreement between Vietnam</a> and the EU is reached? Vietnam has an advantage in trading with Germany, with a trade surplus in many sectors, like mobile phones, garment-textile, footwear, computer components, food, and agricultural products like seafood and coffee. Meanwhile, German products which have advantages in the Vietnamese market include machinery, automotive products, pharmaceutical, and chemical products. So, if a free trade agreement between <a href="http://bit.ly/1p5pVWa">Vietnam and the EU</a> is concluded in the future, it will foster trade. Moreover, the economic development of Vietnam will lead to an increased volume of trade, especially with Germany. Vietnam has set the goal to be an industrialized country by 2020, and the country will need to invest substantially in your industries in order to modernize them, and Vietnam will also need more machinery and equipment to reach this goal. <a href="http://bit.ly/1sULc2I">As Germany</a> is a world-leading country in supplying world-class machinery and equipment for your industrialization and modernization process, I think many Vietnamese firms will choose to buy German-made machinery and equipment. On the other hand, German firms are boosting investment in the Vietnamese market, not only in traditional segments like machinery and equipment, but also in the consumer market. What are the bright spots in the investment environment of the eastern states of Germany? The first thing is that the economy in eastern Germany has completely integrated into the German economy – an integral part of one of the biggest countries in the world. We have invested a lot of money in upgrading the infrastructures in eastern Germany and building the economy there over the past 25 years, which means that many of the business there, especially SMEs, are very competitive. They are operating in all sorts of industries, including automotive, electronics, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and chemical. When promoting the business environment there to foreign investors, we want to stress that we welcome foreign investors from all sectors, and they will not be discriminated against by local firms when operating there. I think potential Vietnamese investors should pay attention to German technological advancement, especially when they look into the structure of the Vietnamese economy, and find what the country needs in the year to come to build up their own industries. They will find enough opportunities in eastern Germany. The second thing that investors will go to where they can find what they need the most for their production, and so they will go to a region where as many original equipment manufacturers (OEM) are located as possible. For example, we have a very good chemical infrastructure in the region. There is a big pipeline system which provides all necessary raw or prefabricated materials for chemical firms. The same supply networks are available for many other industries, like automotive, as well as good transportation infrastructures and auto-bank systems, which are available for local and foreign investors there. There is another advantage of our economy – our industrial infrastructure is very much regionalized, and not focused on certain hubs, like in France. What should Vietnamese firms do if they want to invest in the region? <a href="http://bit.ly/1phT3sc">If Vietnamese</a> firms want to invest in eastern Germany, they should not hesitate to knock on the door of GTaI headquarters, or our Hanoi office. They can also contact the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam, based in Hanoi (AHK). <a href="http://bit.ly/1nwY6WE">Those Vietnamese</a> firms will have to become acquainted with German firms and people, the market situation there, look at various regions to find a suitable cluster that they are interested in, and we can host them for that purpose. When these tasks are completed, the legal proceedings to arrange licenses will take only a couple of days or a week. Construction of facilities will take longer, a couple of months. In general, we offer them quick and smooth services to quickly conclude all necessary procedures, and of course, they will the treated like German firms. There is global competition in luring foreign investors, and to increase the attractiveness of Germany, GTaI are trying very hard to make them feel like they are at home when investing there.
